What Did They Do?
by Valerie Stratford
Just like applying for a job, or getting a great babysitter, the great hook-ups are all about whom you know, not what you know. In wedding planning, it is very much the same! Brides and grooms all over the country have found ways to scrimp and save for their wedding, but what about the honeymoon? We have asked our readers all over the country what they did to get the most out of their honeymoon, while trying to pay the least.
Valerie, Spokane, WA
"Just a few hours away from Spokane is a bavarian town called Leavenworth. The entire place carries an old European feel, so much so, that we felt like we'd actually left the country and enjoyed a european vacation! We paid for the hotel, and other than that only had small expenses as we walked the town, enjoyed picnics, and ate gelato! Tourist towns are the best, and cheap!"
Tasia, Castle Rock, CO
"Colorado is filled with gorgeous mountains and natural beauty so, for our honeymoon we chose to go camping! Family friends let us borrow their cabin for a few days and aside from the cost of food, the trip was practically free. The nature and solitude was the perfect, relaxing honeymoon for us."
Ryan, Murrieta, CA
"We knew we only had a week to get from one reception to the next, and on the way was Las Vegas, NV. We stayed at a cheap timeshare for 3 days, and saw all of the free shows along the strip. The shops were perfect for my wife, while the interesting dining options were perfect for me! There was never a boring moment, and the weather was beautiful."
Brenda, Afton, WY
"An hour away from home is the scenic Jackson Hole, WY. With a tent, sleeping bags and plenty of great snacks, we spent days in the wilderness, just us two. We even borrowed the equipment we needed from our parents, so the trip was virtually free. When we wanted to relax, we relaxed, and when we wanted to go site seeing, town was nearby. It was perfect."
Laura, Vienna, VA
"Because I'm from Virginia, I knew all of the free and monumental sites all of the DC area. We made a plan of where we wanted to eat, what we wanted to see, and stayed in an inexpensive hotel for the evenings. Everything was planned and paid for thanks to our budget. There was never a boring moment, and for my spouse, who had never been to DC, it was memorable to say the least."
